GIA BAKER KNOWS HOW TO TAKE OUR SCHOOLS BACK FROM THE PROGRESSIVE AGENDA.

Gia Romano Baker has been a dedicated educator and charitable volunteer in St. Tammany Parish her whole life. Gia grew up in Covington with her parents Jackie and John “Pizzie” Romano and her siblings Jay, Lisa, Jeffrey and Joel Romano. Gia attended grade school at St. Peter, William Pitcher for Junior High and graduated from Covington High School in 1984.

Following high school, Gia attended college at Louisiana State University and earned her degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Orleans. Her postgraduate work began at UNO and her special education certification was earned from Southeastern Louisiana University.

Gia married Robert Baker in 1992. They raised their two daughters, Alexis and Sophia, in Mandeville where they attended Mandeville Elementary, Tchefuncte Middle School, Mandeville Junior High, and Mandeville High Public Schools. Robert and Gia started their own heavy construction company, Baker Pile Driving. They have been very successful in their business growing it from a one-crane residential-only business to a fleet of equipment servicing commercial, industrial, marine, and residential projects over the gulf coast states.

Gia has always put her family and community first. As an educator, Gia has demonstrated her passion for children through her work. She worked for St. Tammany Parish Public Schools teaching regular and Special Education Language Arts at Mandeville Jr. High. She became the Special Education Coordinator at Covington High and then finished her career as a Special Education IEP Facilitator for the parish focusing on compliance in planning, implementing, and monitoring educational plans to ensure students with special needs experience academic success.

Gia was ultimately appointed to fill a vacant seat on the School Board in District 9 in January of 2021, as a result of her hard work and dedication to the children. In December 2021 Gia was unanimously re-elected to the School Board seat for District 9. Gia's commitment to serving can be characterized by her “Can Do Attitude” exemplified in her successful bid to establish a traffic school zone on Hwy 22 near Lancaster Elementary School. Gia saw a need for traffic control by recognizing the extremely dangerous situation parents and buses faced exiting the school. It was no easy task. Gia personally performed a traffic study and presented the data in her findings to LA DOTD. The process was very difficult because of some complex land ownership issues between the school and the highway. Gia worked tirelessly to overcome those obstacles and was ultimately successful in getting the school zone approved by the State.

Gia's dedication to the St. Tammany Parish School System is unmatched. She has been long recognized as a valuable asset to the community and to the children she has dedicated her life to. This election for School Board representation is too important to take lightly. Our Public School Programs are under siege by the Progressive Agenda and it is having a terrible impact on our children's education and preparation for life. We have an opportunity to elect somebody who understands this and also understands how the school system functions. Now is not the time to put forward anybody without the history, experience, and dedication that Gia Baker has. Please do your Homework and Re-elect Gia Baker to School Board District 9. SHE REALLY IS THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB!
